Tri-Nations just a few days away from kick-off, we take a look at the three rugby powerhouses out to make a splash before the Rugby World Cup. First up, Australia vs South Africa!

The worrying reading for the Wallabies going into this Series is that they’ve failed to lift the coveted silverware for a decade, while it is nine years since they got their hands on the Bledisloe Cup.

Only veteran lock forward Nathan Sharpe was in attendance when they achieved either feat – painting a picture of how long their drought has lasted. But records are there to be brought to an end and when better to break that duck than in this, a Rugby World Cup, year.

2011 spells the end of the Tri-Nations as we know it. From next year, the southern hemisphere giants will be joined by Argentina in an extended format of the competition.

South Africa have only won the Tri-Nations championship three times (and 27 of their 68 fixtures) since it kicked off in 1996 and will love nothing more than making it title number four in a World Cup year and end the 16-year series on a high.
